hello to all.

i must say that i am highly dependent on caffeine because the fact that i have gone without a single milligram of caffeine today has somehow or rather caused me to feel relatively lethargic even at work. Stayed over nesh's place yesterday and we caught The Dark Knight. It was one hellava awesome movie, the best batman movie i've watched so far. Even Nesh agrees so. Had thosai for dinner, his mom makes really good thosai and i've finally picked up the courage to watch and ask his mom about the stuff she uses to cook. I think i've got the mental picture of how to make tomato chutney and the thosai mixture. Alot more to learn though. (:

Anyway, work was pretty mundane..well except that i managed to sign off one of my checklists in the more advanced booklet. Assisted for the first time in the insertion of transvenous pacing.

Transvenous pacing is a life-saving intervention whereby a pacing catheter is inserted either through the femoral(groin) artery or through the Internal Jugular Vein. The catheter is then advanced into the heart and sits just below the triscupid valve. And once its position is confirmed, it is hooked up to a pacemaker(that's where i come in) and the pacemaker senses the Q wave on the ECG and then sends an electrical current to correct any arrythmias(abnormal heart rythms) or in most cases like this patient, bradycardia or even Sick Sinus Syndrome which is when the SA node which is the original pacemaker of the heart (whereby electrical impulses originate from before moving off to the rest of the heart.) start generating unfavorable impulses or the inability of the SA node to conduct impulses to the atrium. It usually is caused by blockages of the impulses or any conditions that can cause inflammation or degeneration of the atrial tissue.

So having seen the procedure being done 3 times, i was more or less familiar with what i had to do to assist the doctor with the procedure and even though most ccu nurses never start on their ccu competency checklist until after their probation which is after the sixth month(that'll be in november for me.) I took up the courage and asked my senior if i could assist and if she could supervise me..and surprisingly enough, the nurse manager was somehow encouraging about me taking up this more advanced role in being a ccu nurse and although i was nervous sick as to what i needed to do, i had very good guidance from my senior and i'm glad i took up the challenge.

Got onto the bus, feeling rather drugged, somehow or rather, started to miss nesh all of a sudden. Dont ask me why, but somethings are just unexplainable. And when i got home, and spoke to him online..he told me he missed me! And asked if i was missing him as well...and that, was the cherry on my icing cake. (:
Apparently, he has been suffering from food poisoning since friday and has been having the whole diarrhea and vomitting thing going on. Apparently he said he BO-ed like 5 Litres of fluid last night and today while i was soundly asleep. pretty torturous huh. And to think that i could sleep soundly with all that movement around beside me. Lol. Anyway, GET WELL SOON darling! And i still miss you! Somehow..wont be seeing him till a week later or so. :(

Am on Afternoon shift tomorrow, and then AM shift followed by training in the evening. My first rugby training was alright, although it has left me with a pretty bad hamstring pull over both limbs. Nesh was sweet enough to offer to massage it for me last night. I can still recall the way he walked into the room behaving like a tranny and saying-"thai massageee". Well, cant really explain it all in words but seeing him do that just made me laugh my ass off. Even till now, i find myself sheepishly smiling to myself.

I think i'm off to bed now, good night world!

impulsively and honestly,
yours truly
