as usual today, i woke up at 3 in the afternoon.
And did my usual random stuff.
Talked to nesh for a while, i miss him so much! =(
Anyhoos, and then the best thing that happened to me was prolly whennn
Bei msged me saying that i'm posted to the CCU(Coronary Care Unit/Cardiac Monitoring Unit)
Initially i had requested for CTICU(Cardio Thoracic Intensive Care Unit) or the MICU(Medical Intensive Care Unit).
For a moment i was quite upset that i did'nt get what i had requested for, but i told myself i ought to be grateful, that at least i've managed to get into an ICU(something i've always wished for, the past 3 years) or a specialized area. And i've always wanted to specialize in either Cardio or Neuro/Neurosurg. Now let me give you all an idea of what goes on in the CCU.
The Coronary Care Unit or CCU cares for patients who have heart disease and occasionally other medical or surgical problems. Conditions such as myocardial infarction (heart attack), angina (chest pain), congestive heart failure (CCF) and arrhythmias (abnormal heart beats) are common reasons to be admitted to CCU. Patients may come to this unit following procedures such as cardiac angioplasty or the placement of stents in their coronary blood vessels.
The CCU provides the ability to monitor the heart’s rhythm continuously and to use specialized treatment such as thrombolytic therapy (medication that dissolves or breaks-up blood clots). Tests such as echocardiography (ECG) may are performed frequently within the CCU. Close monitoring by specially trained medical and nursing staff, CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and medical measures could reduce the mortality from complications of cardiovascular disease.
So with that said, I've figured i'm going to be an expert in intepreting ECGs and carrying out CPR. (: And i figured, it might be a good learning ground and stepping stone actually to move into the CTICU. I hope all goes well for me, and i hope there will be good colleagues to work with in there. And everything else, i'll leave it to the one above. Wish me luck people. I start work on the 5th of May! ((:
